1 Up USA long term bicycle rack review

Image
Happy holidays readers!  Today I'll review my 1 Up bike rack, these racks are known to be high quality, modular construction, expandable, warrantied for life, and rather convenient when it comes to placing bicycles.  After two and a half years, I've got some knowledge to pass along! My 1 Up double rack complete with stickers About 1 Up USA As the name suggests, 1 Up is a US based company with headquarters in Wisconsin.  They took a novel approach to the bike rack with two independent ratcheting arms allowing users to positions their bikes however they like to avoid bike-on-bike contact during transport.  These racks have a modular architecture (can replace any single part) and are constructed of high quality aluminum.  1 Up racks can be had from one-bike up to four-bike capacity which is pretty nice.  So if you want that super unique three-bike rack, you can build it! Trusty steed holder 1 Up racks are hugely capable accommodating a range of wheel diameters...

2023 Magura MT7 Brakes review - REVISED and Downgraded

Image
Today I'll be reviewing the third set of brakes I've put on my beloved Stumpy, the Magura MT7 Pro brake set!  I got these at a celebration of life event motivated by my discontent with the original Sram Code RS brakes that came with my Specialized Stumpjumper Evo.   Magura brakes are common amongst the pros so I figured if they are good enough for the likes of Loic Bruni and Brett Tippie, they should be more than enough for me.   Magura's MT7 Pro brake with Storm HC rotor About Magura Brakes Magura is a German company with their origins in motorcycle components.  In the mountain biking world they offer brakes, suspension, and dropper posts.  Their brakes are highly regarded as some of the best in the industry providing incredible braking force, high quality parts, lightweight, and full customization of the brake kits.  Customization meaning you can change the color of clamps, piston rings, lever blades, and rotors!  One can really build the d...

Body Guard 301 Series General Utility Glove Review

Image
In this review I'm going to review my new favorite pair of gloves.  My buddy Rob introduced me to these gloves for mountain biking so I gave them a shot. The Body Guard 301 gloves are general utility gloves, aka a tough generic glove meant for any use.  These gloves are constructed from synthetic leather and spandex making for a tough glove that fits great.  I wear a size XL, which feels like a Fox XXXL.  The palm length and width are spot on for my hand and the fingers rather close.  The glove has one adjustment which is a velcro strap around the wrist.  The gloves are also advertised to be touch screen compatible. A great fit and for great grip What I like about the gloves They feel heavier and tougher than the usual dedicated mountain bike gloves.  They grip well, wick away sweat well, and are tough.  I've crashed twice on the same glove and it did great.  No holes, or tears, or even scuffs for that matter which is highly impressive. ...

2023 Revel Rail 29 Review

Image
This past weekend the Revel bikes demo truck came to town offering up free demos and I just couldn't miss out!  I went in with the intention of riding something different such as a cross country bike or all-mountain/trail bike (think a little lighter and shorter travel than my Stumpjumper).  While waiting in line I saw this beautiful Rail 29 in red (excuse me, Shred Velvet Cake! lol) with full Fox Factory suspension and Shimano groupset, my favorites!  Needless to say I asked for the big bike with the intentions of riding an XC bike later that weekend.   The 2023 Revel Rail 29 Spec's and Value This particular bike was a size XL with Fox Factory suspension, Shimano XT 4 piston brakes, XT 12 speed drivetrain, Crank Bro's dropper post, Race Face cockpit (bars & stem), and Crank Bro's alloy rims laced to Industry 9 hubs shed in Maxxis Minion tires!  Right off the bat these are some of my favorite components on the market.  The MSRP for this build kit i...

2022 Specialized Turbo Levo Review

Image
This week I'm reviewing the 2022 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Alloy!  My friend Mr. BiltyGoatSquadMTB left his ebike here over the weekend and I stole a ride on it.  This bike is a size 5 (one larger than my Stumpjumper Evo) and is customized with One Up carbon handlebar, Cush Core tire inserts front & rear, and big 'ol Sensus Meaty Paw grips.   The Specialized Turbo Levo Spec's and Value I know Specialized as a high performance and high value bike company, the Turbo Levo is no different.  This bike's MSRP is $7,500 which is a lot for a bike equipped with SRAM GX drivetrain and Code brakes, until we factor in the big "E".  In this case we have a motor delivering 90Nm of torque fueled by a 700Wh battery which Specialized advertises as a combo good for 5 hours.  This bests the Yeti 160e rated for 85Nm of torque and 630Wh of battery capacity!  If none of that made sense, know that the Specialized Turbo Levo packs a lot of power. Turbo motor contro...

Troy Lee Design A1 helmet 1 year review

Image
Hi everyone, today I'll be reviewing my Troy Lee Design A1 helmet.  This is a "half-lid" helmet offering basic all around protection at a good price.  I bought this helmet after I cracked my Leatt helmet on the over-under feature at the Fantasy Island trails in Tucson. My A1 helmet with rear facing blinker (not included) What I like about the helmet I like the fitment of the A1 helmet.  I tried on the A1, A2, and A3 helmets at REI and the A1 had the most natural fit.  This fit can get better with the BOA adjustment feature on the back allowing for the perfect fit around my head.  Comfortable all around The A1 is MIPS rated, a common safety feature in helmets these days which makes me feel a little bit better should I ever need the helmet to protect me.  MIPS stans for Multi-directional Impact Protection System is mean to reduce the rotation forces from impact.  The graphics are simple yet cool.  The black and white color scheme is simple and doesn...
