Body Guard 301 Series General Utility Glove Review

In this review I'm going to review my new favorite pair of gloves.  My buddy Rob introduced me to these gloves for mountain biking so I gave them a shot.

The Body Guard 301 gloves are general utility gloves, aka a tough generic glove meant for any use.  These gloves are constructed from synthetic leather and spandex making for a tough glove that fits great.  I wear a size XL, which feels like a Fox XXXL.  The palm length and width are spot on for my hand and the fingers rather close.  The glove has one adjustment which is a velcro strap around the wrist.  The gloves are also advertised to be touch screen compatible.

A great fit and for great grip

What I like about the gloves

They feel heavier and tougher than the usual dedicated mountain bike gloves.  They grip well, wick away sweat well, and are tough.  I've crashed twice on the same glove and it did great.  No holes, or tears, or even scuffs for that matter which is highly impressive.  My Casio wrist watch (also pictured) did fair quite as well.

The glove with 2 crashes on it and looks new

The XL palm fits my hand perfectly! The spandex back flexes in multiple directions and feels like a tough cloth.  I found this glove comfortable down to 45F as it is a heavier glove.  It would probably be a bit warm in a Tucson summer but then again the glove wick away sweat nicely, I never had issues with slipping on the grip from sweat.  Lastly there are no seams on high pressure areas which means comfort for a long time.

These gloves are subtle in style, very subtle.  They have black logos on a black background.  They will never be mistaken for flashy Troy Lee Designs, which is okay with me.

The price!  A quick search on Google says the pair costs about $28, which is less than the usual mountain bike glove.  This is an amazing deal for a pair of gloves which are so incredibly tough.

What I didn't like about the gloves

I found no glaring faults with the gloves so I will result to petty nitpicking.  The fingers could be a smidge longer to fit my fingers perfectly.  In all fairness, they are on par other gloves.

Availability, I don't think I've ever seen these gloves in store before like I have Fox, 100%, or Mechanix.  Bike shops would do well to carry these gloves.  Because of this I can't confirm their MSRP is truly $28.

Conclusion

In my years of biking I have not found a better glove.  The fact that I have crashed twice on these gloves without tearing wholes in them is incredible.  Had I done the same on a regular mountain bike glove I would have expected holes.  This is the best mountain biking glove I have used agnostic of price, the fact that they are less than $30 just makes them that much more amazing.
